I try to work on basics, like rhyrhm, scales/arpeggios and try to apply every exersize on a standard I am working on. Since some weeks I use a book where I write plans and goals and applications for every exersize I do. Works not always but if I do I learn much more effective and motivated. Its good at the end of a guitar playing to write the exersize plan for the next day, so next time - no matter how much I am in the mood for playing or am tired - this decision was already made. I try to force me to learn complete song to prevent me for being stuck in exersizes. During exersizes I try always to understand what I do, so e.g. I avoid to think too much in shapes on the fretboard but in notes and intervals. I try to record my playing and listen to it afterwards as often as possible. I visit concerts of good musicians. I play regularly with a fixed group with the goal of performances. I always have a teacher regularly.
