“Mick Goodrick has had a singular devotion to music and the search for the unified field theory of harmony, life and music that challenged every student and guitarist to find a broader expression of themselves. He has provided a guiding light to many advancing guitarists looking to invent their own way of playing and in doing so has shaped the sound of this generation. To Mick, teaching and playing is a gift that he can give away to everyone and it just makes him more fulfilled in the doing.
But the body is not so generous. Mick has been afflicted by a progressive neurological disease, recently diagnosed Parkenson's disease, that has been working its way through his body, shutting down system by system.
In the two years since his retirement from Berklee, he's been organizing his many unpublished works and setting up a foundation devoted to helping educate and fund musical endeavours. All that has come to an abrupt halt as the disease has taken an aggressive turn.
He is now very limited in movement and requiring constant professional care, medical equipment and medicines that are outside of his existing insurance coverage.
We are appealing to all those that he has touched, all those who have been enriched by the possibilities he has opened, all those who's silences have been been made more meaningful by his presence, to help Mick in his time of greatest need.
Please take a moment to think about the profound gift that is music, and a man who has given so much over the years to expanding and advancing our lives. Please take a moment to appreciate life, sound and the ways we help one another by sharing. Thank you”
