ENG/ How to transform into a spontaneous and natural gesture a musical phrase during improvisation that initially turns out to be rigid and inarticulate? This is a question we all ask ourselves. During our childhood, the question was never really asked, since at the center of everything there was the pure and simple need to solve a practical problem as it could be to walk or to be able to handle any instrument that passed between our hands. This parallel could make us think: if the sense of necessity is placed at the center of the reflection, then perhaps the concept of learning becomes less abstract and the necessary repetition of each gesture becomes less tiring, since it is structurally necessary. But what might be a “necessary” musical phrase? Perhaps the one that aligns in the most precise and profound way with our own interiority at the moment of the performance, beyond any judgment that our own intellect might enact.
